My name is Arlo.
Today I'm gonna be reading "Is This Your Favorite Ice Cream?"
written by Ryan Rucker, illustrated by Nhat Hau Nguyen.
♪♪ Rae and her dad loved ice cream.
They loved vanilla, strawberry, and especially any flavors with sprinkles, hot fudge, and a cherry on top.
While visiting new cities, they enjoyed finding local ice cream shops with unique flavors.
After every new adventure, Dad would ask, "Rae, is this your favorite ice cream?"
It was hard for her to choose because they were all so delicious.
One day on their way to San Francisco, Rae asked Dad, "What is your favorite ice cream?"
"Good question," he said.
"I visit a lot of places with great ice cream.
It's hard to pick my favorite."
"I have a sweet idea," said Rae.
"Let's go on a road trip to find our favorite ice cream."
After thinking about it for a second, Dad replied, "Okay, let's hit the rocky road."
Rae and her dad packed their bags and embarked on an ice cream adventure.
"Where should we go first?"
asked Rae.
Dad told her about some excellent ice cream up north.
So... ...off to Seattle they went.
"Wow, Dad.
This is good," said Rae while wiping sprinkles from her face.
"Is this your favorite ice cream?"
"Maybe, but I heard of a place in the Rocky Mountains with outstanding ice cream, too.
Should we go there next?"
"Yes!"
shouted Rae.
So... off to Denver they went.
"Whoa.
This is great.
Is this your favorite ice cream?"
Rae asked while bundled in her cozy coat.
"Possibly, but heard of a place in the Windy City that's magnificent, too.
Do you want to check it out?"
"Of course," said Rae.
So... off to Chicago they went.
With a mouthful of ice cream, Rae said, "Holy moly.
This is yummy.
Is this your favorite ice cream, Dad?"
"Perhaps, but I heard of a place that's supposed to be splendid."
"Let's go!"
said Rae excitedly before Dad could finish his question, so... off to Columbus they went.
"Wowzer, this is delicious," said Rae, with pieces of waffle cone crumbling down her shirt.
"Is this your favorite ice cream?"
"It is delicious," said Dad.
but I want to take you somewhere special.
I want to take you where I first discovered my love for ice cream.
What do you say?"
"I say what are we waiting for, Dad?
Let's go."
Following a delightful drive around Lake George, Rae and her dad stopped to try two of Dad's favorite hometown ice creams.
While devouring their cones, Rae asked, "Dad, these are impressive, but which one is your favorite -- scoops or soft serve?"
Without hesitation, Dad said, "Well, Rae, my favorite ice cream is anything I can share with the people I love."
Before getting in the car, they took in the lake views one last time.
"We have a few more spots to visit on this trip, Rae.
Are you ready?"
"Let's go."
Next stop, Burlington, where they hit the slopes before trying some unique ice cream flavors with lots of chocolaty, gooey swirls mixed in.
"Yummy!"
Up next, Washington, D.C., where they explored the sights and found flavors that earned their vote.
"Dreamy."
After that, Miami, where they built sand castles and enjoyed their favorite treats from the ice cream truck.
"Tasty."
Next up, Houston, where they had no problems scarfing down one giant ice cream sundae that was out of this world.
"Scrumptious."
And for their last stop, Los Angeles, where they found greatness in a glamorous scoop shop surrounded by stars.
"Legendary."
After their memorable trip around the country searching for their favorite ice cream, Rae struggled to keep her eyes open.
"Dad, how can anybody choose their absolute favorite ice cream?"
"Finding your favorite ice cream is easier than you would think," he replied.
They hopped into the car to drive home, where they would finally choose their favorite ice cream.
The following day, Rae woke up to find a special present in her room.
She quickly unwrapped it and found her very own ice cream maker.
Rae rushed down the stairs and yelled, "Dad, look!
Look what Mom got us.
Now we can make our very own ice cream."
Dad found a recipe, Rae grabbed the ingredients, Mom got the whisk, and everybody worked together to make their first batch of homemade ice cream.
After one taste, Rae looked at her parents and squealed, "It's amazing!"
"You're right," said Dad.
"But I have one question.
Is this your favorite ice cream?
Without hesitation, Rae looked up and said, "Well, Dad, my favorite ice cream is anything I can share with the people I love, too."
The end.
Thanks for reading with me.
