GEOFF BENNETT: Also during that Oval Office event today, President Donald Trump announced that all 50 states will participate in a new Medicaid drug pricing program aimed at reducing the cost of some prescription drugs.

The program requires more than two dozen participating drugmakers to offer Medicaid prices comparable to those paid in certain other countries.

But many details of the arrangement remain unclear, raising questions about the true savings.

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order today that aims to speed up safety measures for artificial intelligence, including a possible kill switch for advanced AI models.

The order follows warnings from leading tech executives and researchers that the technology is advancing too rapidly.

Newsom, a possible 2028 presidential contender, says federal officials haven't done enough to regulate the industry.

President Trump has dismissed calls for U.S.

companies to slow down their AI development.

The lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy trial says he had no doubts about her guilt.

In his first public comments, Michael Desronvil said through his lawyer that based on the evidence - - quote -- "I thought it was enough proof that she knew exactly what she was doing and planned."

That contradicts the jury foreperson, who has said that Desronvil expressed doubts about Clancy's guilt, but wanted to convict her anyway.

The judge in the case declared a mistrial earlier this month.

Prosecutors must now decide whether to retry Clancy in the 2023 killings of her three children.

Russians are voting in the country's first parliamentary election since its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The Kremlin's United Russia Party is widely expected to retain its dominance, as it faces virtually no opposition at the polls.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is seeking to cast the election as a show of support for the war.

Meantime, in Ukraine, firefighters battled flames after a Russian drone struck this shopping mall in Zaporizhzhia.

Local authorities say one person was injured.

Also today, French President Emmanuel Macron is calling for increased protections for critical European infrastructure amid a rise in Russia's alleged drone and cyberattacks.

EMMANUEL MACRON, French President (through translator): Drone intrusions into the airspace of several countries show us that no one is safe.

So, in the face of this, we act.

The intention behind it is to intimidate us and to derail the effort to support the Ukrainians.

The consequence will be the opposite.

GEOFF BENNETT: Macron also said he would convene a G7 meeting in the coming weeks to address the ongoing energy crisis brought on by the Ukraine war and events in the Middle East.

Iran says it struck a tanker that made what officials called an illegal attempt to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The attack has not been independently verified.

Meantime, in Iran, hundreds of thousands of people filled the streets of Tehran for a government-sponsored display of national support and unity.

It was the largest such rally since the war started back in February, while, in Yemen, thousands rallied in support of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels and to protest Saudi accusations that the group had targeted the city of Mecca, which the Houthis have denied.

Billionaire investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett is stepping down as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway after leading the trillion-dollar conglomerate for more than 60 years.

In a letter to shareholders, the 96-year-old Buffett acknowledged that age was a factor in his decision, writing: "Father time always wins.

He has, however, given me the opportunity to see Berkshire reach a point where I am more confident than ever about what lies ahead."

Buffett becomes chairman emeritus effective immediately.

And his son Howard will now lead the company as part of a long-planned transition.

Well, on Wall Street today, stocks ended mixed after an uneasy week of trading.

The Dow Jones industrial average lost nearly 100 points.

The Nasdaq rose about 100 points.

The S&P 500 also ended the week with a small gain.

And singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik has died.

As a reluctant pop music heartthrob, Sheik was behind one of the biggest hits of the 1990s.

GEOFF BENNETT: His song "Barely Breathing" spent more than a year on the Billboard Top 100.

But Sheik bristled at the pop label and found a new audience and massive success on Broadway, writing the music for the groundbreaking show "Spring Awakening."

That musical won eight Tony Awards and a Grammy.

A post on his Instagram page says Duncan Sheik died last night, adding: "His musical legacy will continue to inspire generations to come."

The cause of death was cardiac arrest.

Duncan Sheik was 56 years old.
