But the band set to take effect on April first would still allow the sale of beverages with hemp carve out that left Alderman Daniel was spotted a confused.

So Heather, Mayor Brandon Johnson opposed the original version of this ordinance which would have imposed a sweeping ban on these intoxicating hemp products.

Will he veto the measure that passed the council today?

He very specifically declined to say what he was going to do with this ordinance while saying he had serious concerns that it would create a black market of these down to 8 or intoxicating hemp products.

>> And would do little to sort get bad actors out of the marketplace while punishing those business owners would really tried to follow the law in this very complicated area.

You know, so how exactly would this band work?

Well, immediately, if the ordinance takes effect, it would ban the sale of these products to those younger than 21.

>> But it wouldn't take effect war widely until April 1st.

So that wider ban on the sale of cookies or chips or other products.

However, it exempts beverages.

So if you enjoy a THC, infused beverage at your local watering hole, that would be okay.

Also, topical ointments and other creams that have hemp can also allowed to be sold.

Yeah.

We saw a lot of lobbying from the beverage producers in particular on this issue.

Some other action today, effort to expand the Chicago Police Department's curfew power stalled.

What happened there?

Well, just before of boat was set to take place.

Alderman Brian Hopkins introduced a revised measure that would essentially not change the way the city's curfew law works but gives the superintendent of the Chicago police new powers to issue essentially a preemptive dispersal order and then detain anyone under 17 until a guardian or a parent can come pick them up.

If they had probable cause to believe that one of these teams gatherings was planned and that there was a likelihood of violence.

It's not clear how that would work.

However, Mayor Brynn Johnson and his office helped negotiate that language.

It's not clear whether it would make it through the city Council, how it would actually work or whether it would stop the kind of violence we saw in November that ended with one teen dead and 8 others.
