Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipI was invited to visit a lot of state shelters and orphanages, and I found that most of these places were very institutionalized as you can probably imagine.
for everything, Sandy.
They were good at taking care of the kids physical needs, but maybe no...not so much focused on taking care of the kids emotional needs.
one of the last days I was invit to...to visit Margaritas shelter.
The second those big steel doors opened and I stepped over the threshold, I could immediately feel and sense you know that this was a very special place.
It was small and it was worn out eh, but you know there was such a warmth radiating from the place.

it just felt so homely and so different from the more cold and institutionalized places that I had been before, that I started to get really curious and that's, I guess, where...where the film began in some kind of a way.
There is hope and the hope is in the kids and in the people trying to do or change their world for the better.
